"Gran, Who Is This Kid?"

Yes.

When your grandmother has a picture on her mantlepiece of a kid she doesn't know, do you start to worry? When she has pictures of kids who aren't even IN the family?

No. Completely normal. If you think otherwise then obviously, YOU are NOT normal.

Who in the name of Bloody Hell is this?

She's had a picture of this kid on her mantlepiece for about 40 years. I don't know who it is, My dad doesn't know who it is, My Uncle doesn't really have a clue who it is so we ask Granny Mollie:

"Who is he?"

and she clears it up for us....

"I don't know! why are you asking me?!"

Ah. Mystery solved, then....

The photo has to be from around 1963 to 1970 judging by the Beatle haircut. From what my Uncle Alan can surmise (and he's totally guessing here) this kid must have been one of his mates when he was in school and they both had a photo done and he took them both home and Granny Mollie decided (in all complete normality) to throw out the picture of HER SON and keep the photo of the kid she DIDN'T KNOW.

She's also got photos of a family friends boy Jeremy (who's now nearly in his 40's i think!) when he was around 4 years old and one of when he had just graduated in his cap and gown about 20 years ago. That's all very well but a stranger comes in, see's the photo of Jeremy and reasonably assumes that he's her son or grandson only to find out that it's not and she's someone who puts up photos of other people's children in her house. 

Ah well. Must be an Ullapool thing. Like sticking JUST a tea towel in the washing machine and wasting water.
